Julie MacKinnon is a professional ceramic artist, designer, and educator with over 25 years of experience in clay. Her high-fired porcelain work has been exhibited and sold throughout Canada, and she is the founder of The Hey Julie School of Clay on Salt Spring Island, offering workshops, mentorship, and studio space.
A passionate teacher and advocate for the ceramic community, Julie is known for her humour, creativity, and generous approach to teaching. Her workshops invite potters to push their practice, explore their own visual language, and develop their skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Hand Building is overlooked and underrated. It is the key component to understanding clay and creating with intention! You can make ANYTHING with hand building skills.
Slab building, coil construction, pinch pots, paddling, molds, stamping, carving… You can create pots in multiples and in a variety of scales. Quick and easy ways to construct mugs to teapots to plates!
Lets also take a look at surface design! So many ways to decorate and embellish your forms!
Suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced potters.
